Mostar, Bosnia & Herzegovina 🇧🇦

This might be one of my favourite cities in the Balkans…but there are a lot of cities on that list 😂

We spent the night with a gorgeous view over the city, under the bright millennium cross (thank goodness we have dark window coverings!).

Our days were spent meandering around the stunning Old Town, drinking coffee & eating cevapi. We spent a couple nights in an AirBnB…because it gets tiring spending multiple nights in a row crammed in the back of Gimli, cuz it’s cold outside (and we’re only partly equipped for the cold this trip!)

We’re counting down the days until Gimli parks up for the winter & we head home. But we’re not quite finished yet!

My 5-part “Overlanding” definition - what would you add?

🚙 Independent travel where the journey is the destination

🚙 Driven by an off-road capable vehicle that also acts as a home

Of course we HAD to stop at Željava Air Base on our way through. It seems like a classic overlanding stop (and we like any excuse to leave a sticker!). Plus there was a great place to spend the night close by 🏕️

It was pretty cool to drive down the old runway & drive into the airplane hanger tucked into the mountain 🏔️ The rubbish inside was a bit disappointing, including a massive pile of tires (seriously, I don’t understand why anyone would haul their used tires out there to dump them!). But we were all alone, and with the snow it felt almost peaceful…which I realize is the exact opposite of what this represents.

We went a little bit out of our way to drive the musical road in Hungary, and it was definitely worth it!!

If you drive the right speed (80km/h, which Gimli is thankfully happy to do!), the road actually sings. I admit, I was a bit skeptical initially, I wasn’t sure if it would be that obvious. But even over the TD5 rumble the tune was crystal clear!
