Have you heard of Saklikent Canyon? I hadn’t eith Have you heard of Saklikent Canyon?

I hadn’t either, but hiking here was so much fun!

We spent the night at a little campsite just down the road and we were headed into the Canyon by about 11am. We bought our tickets, grabbed a yellow helmet (not washed between users, just saying 😭) and headed down the boardwalk. When we came to the end there were benches and tables set up in the stream, and a few people walking up the river. So, we decided to give it a go.

The initial ā€˜rapids’ at the bottom of the little waterfall had me struggling a bit (damn my short legs!), but once we got in the groove of it, it was okay.

Until Calais got her flip flop stuck in the mud, pulled it out and ripped the top right apart! Luckily it was right at the beginning so Randy ran back and bought a pair of $3 water shoes (we left ours in Gimli, rookie mistake!)

The walk up the river, through the canyons was stunning! We rescued 2 floating flip flops, Kacela got completely soaked cuz she was wearing pants! (they started rolled up for about 5 sec and the she gave up and just got wet), Randy fell in when he got stuck in the mud, and Calais & I adopted the ā€˜crab walk’ cuz I was petrified of losing/wrecking my sandals!

On our way back I couldn’t believe the crowd. We basically had to fight through people at the bottom of the waterfall to get out! I was very grateful we’d arrived when we did.

My Tips for Visiting Saklikent Canyon(I.e. learn from my mistakes):
ā° arrive early, I’d recommend 10am honestly
🩓 don’t wear flip flops! You’ll spend the whole time squeezing your toes together so you don’t lose them! Wear water shoes, crocs, or just buy the cheap ones at the entrance
šŸ‘– wear shorts šŸ˜‚ and expect to get wet. Maybe even throw a bathing suit on underneath. We all had wet underwear at the end (to get an idea of how deep the water can be).
šŸ“± Put your phone, etc in a waterproof pouch. Thankfully Randy left his behind, or his phone would be residing in a bag of rice right now!

What do you think? Would you come to Türkiye for this hike?
