Ya just never know what you might find at the end Ya just never know what you might find at the end of a grassy track…

After driving to a park 4 nite spot along this same river and finding 2 other campers already set up, we decided to venture off and see what else we could find. It took a few tries and some questionable roads, but we finally ended up on this peaceful spot along the river, all to ourselves.

Sometimes (all the time!) a little extra effort is worth it.

The biggest benefit of low season travel is the la The biggest benefit of low season travel is the lack of other people.

In the summer, this place would’ve been packed with people, we would’ve had to pay for parking, and we wouldn’t have had a chilled out, enjoyable night (minus the wind šŸ’Ø).

The only plus side to the summer…the bathrooms would probably be cleaner and the trash bins would be emptied regularly šŸ˜‚ However, I’ll take a dirty, flushing toilet over no toilet at all (I think šŸ¤”)

What about you? Dirty flushing toilet? Or no toilet at all?

Our first couple of weeks back in Europe weren’t Our first couple of weeks back in Europe weren’t what we initially expected, and that’s sometimes just how it goes! The spring weather was slow to start this year, making the mountains colder & snowier than we were hoping for. The plan was to explore Durmitor National Park in Montenegro and then the Albanian Alps before heading south to Greece.

But…it was SO foggy in Durmitor, we couldn’t even see the mountains! And then there was a big storm and fresh snow in Northern Albania right before we were going to head to Theth. We ended up missing the 2 big things I’d missed out on during our last trip to the Balkans! I guess it means we’ll have to come back again…a little later in the spring!

1. Snow in Montenegro
2. Camped up at a lovely restaurant in Kosovo, Gryka Decanit (amazing food, a roaring fire & incredibly welcoming people. They made us coffee in the morning and brought us breakfast pastries and wouldn’t let us pay! The only thing we paid for was dinner!)
3 & 4. Monastery Vikosi Decani. The only monastery I’ve visited with an army checkpoint. This UNESCO site was a stunningly beautiful and unexpected.
5, 6, 7. Roads in North eastern Albania. Not for the faint of heart (or those prone to car sickness!)
8. Our beautiful restaurant campsite in Albania, Guesthouse Makry. Also delicious food and incredibly friendly hosts!
9. View from the switchback roads (luckily before it snowed!)
10. We saw more sheep than cars on the roads in Albania!
11 & 12. SPRING!! For 1 day before it stormed & cooled off again. We cheated and booked a cabin at Lake Shkodra Resort.
13. Spring…for real this time (hopefully). Our view from our camp spot at Albanica Winery.
14 & 15. Apollonia. A Greek city, turned Roman city, with foundations of a 4th century Catholic Church, then a 15th century monastery (built using stones from the ruins of Apollonia), to bunkers!!
16 & 17. Albania is said to be the second most tunnelled country, after North Korea. It was cool to be able to explore a few of the bunker tunnels!
18 & 19. It’s finally nice enough for a beach side camp spot in Southern Albania but it’s still a bit too cold for swimming.
20. Hood views šŸ˜

It’s been mass chaos in our house lately. We’v It’s been mass chaos in our house lately. We’ve sold our family home and are frantically moving before we head back to Gimli in Europe.

This time we’re planning on LOTS of mountain and beach time, my 2 favourite things!
